Senior Teaching Assistant – Dysart School

Salary. Grade E, Scale Points 20 – 25. Actual Salary: £26,678.00 – £29,099.61 (FTE: £31,155.00 – £33,983.00). Negotiable on appointment based on qualifications and experience.

Main Location. Dysart School, 190 Ewell Road, Surbiton, KT6 6HL.

Satellite Sites.

  • North Kingston: Latchmere Road, North Kingston, KT2 5TU.
  • Tolworth: School Lane, Surbiton, KT6 7QH.

Working Pattern. 36 hours per week, term time only.


About Dysart School and Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust

Dysart School is an Outstanding special education provider serving pupils aged 4 to 19 with severe and complex learning difficulties. Based in Surbiton, it operates three satellite sites adjacent to mainstream schools, delivering inclusive opportunities and tailored SEN support.

The school features:

  • On-site kitchen for work-related learning.
  • An accessible swimming pool, sensory room, and soft play/adventure play areas.
  • Clearly defined learning spaces integrated with outdoor environments.

The Role: Senior Teaching Assistant

We are looking for an experienced Senior Teaching Assistant to:

  • Provide high-quality instructional support to class teachers.
  • Oversee small teaching groups and develop independent learning.
  • Cooperate closely with Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).
  • Prepare and deliver lessons, including adaptive ICT/communication aids (e.g., PODD, TEACCH).
  • Assess, record, and report pupil progress.
  • Offer cover for classroom absences as required.

The ideal candidate will champion the school’s ethos of collaboration and safeguarding best practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the class teacher to plan, deliver, and evaluate lessons, aligning with individualised education programmes.
    • Ensure consistent, high-quality teaching outside of direct supervision.
    • Use academic rigor and adaptability to cater for diverse learners.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualifications:

    • GCSE A–C (or equivalent) graded standard in English and maths.
  • Practical Experience:

    • Proven expertise in inclusive practices supporting children and young people with SEN/D (Sensory, Communication, and Disability Needs).
  • Technical Skills:

    • Confident in lesson planning, resource selection, and ICT to meet varied learning objectives.
  • Professional Updating:

    • Evidence of использование PBS, TEACCH, and PODD strategies or willingness to undergo relevant training.
  • Demonstrated resilience, patience, and enthusiasm working with challenging behaviours.
