Senior Technical Architect
Senior Technical Architect | Commerce Leader | UK Remote
About the Role
We’re currently looking for a Senior Technical Architect to get involved in a major greenfield project with one of the UK's leading eCommerce organisations.
You will translate high-level solution designs into robust, scalable, secure low-level designs across multiple domains, whilst working closely with Solution Architects, Product Owners, UX, and engineering squads to ensure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements, championing architectural standards, and driving best practice across the estate.
This is a hands-on, highly collaborative role where you’ll influence delivery through strong technical leadership:
- Shaping designs
- Guiding implementation
- Managing technical debt
- Supporting incident resolution
You’ll also play a key part in:
- Mentoring other architects and engineers
- Leading peer reviews
- Advising third parties and stakeholders
- Supporting wider enterprise architecture initiatives, including PoCs and strategic technical direction
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and maintain Low-Level Designs (LLDs) aligned to high-level solution designs, UX wireframes, and evolving business needs
- Ensure designs meet architectural standards; support governance and Design Review processes where deviations are required
- Create and maintain low-level application and integration diagrams in ArchiMate using enterprise tooling
- Publish and maintain API contracts in SwaggerHub and support the Developer Portal and API governance approach
- Drive design quality through peer review, standardisation, and consistent documentation across product areas
- Identify, manage, and reduce technical debt; support squads with backlog refinement and prioritisation
- Propose and lead refactoring initiatives and technical improvements across domains
- Support incident resolution, working with squads and following appropriate escalation routes
- Collaborate with Solution Architects in discovery, translating designs into actionable work items and helping shape NFRs (Non-Functional Requirements)
- Evaluate emerging technologies and lead proof-of-concept (PoC) work to inform future direction
- Manage and optimise cloud and infrastructure costs within your domain, ensuring efficient, budget-aligned resource usage
- Review third-party architectural designs for alignment with internal standards and strategic goals; advise external teams and stakeholders
- Raise and communicate risks that could negatively impact the organisation and delivery outcomes
- Work with Data Architects to clarify requirements and enable delivery of data artefacts
- Mentor architects and engineers, oversee contracting architects, and support the wider Enterprise Architecture function
- Provide strong stakeholder management, responding to queries and ensuring pragmatic, “do the right thing” decision-making
- Assist in evaluating technical options and trade-offs to implement requirements effectively

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
