About the Role
Cloud Imperium is looking for an enthusiastic and technically minded Senior Technical Designer to work on its ever-expanding Star Citizen and Squadron42 at its UK studio located in the heart of Manchester.
About the role:
This Senior Technical Designer position is for the Core Gameplay Pillar based in Manchester. Our team designs and develops actor and gameplay focused systems used across Squadron 42 and the Star Citizen Persistent Universe. We are at the heart of actor gameplay.
Working closely with other teams across the company, we shape the core gameplay loops that set the standard across all products. By designing innovative gameplay systems, implementing creative solutions to technical challenges, and delivering engaging experiences of the highest quality, we strive to fulfil the promise this ambitious universe has to offer.
What does a Senior Technical Designer at CIG do?
- Support Systems and Level Designers as well as the Design Leadership in crafting the vision, interface, and moment-to-moment gameplay.
- Own the implementation, optimization, and long-term maintenance of level scripting.
- Build prototypes and test levels that showcase, validate and document game features, systems, and bespoke experiences.
- Bridge the gap between designers, artists, and programmers to publish high quality levels that stretch the capabilities of the engine and challenge the expectations of players.
- Work closely with UI, Art, and programming teams to complete front end and in-game user interface features using modern UI/UX best practices.

What are we looking for?
- Previous experience in a Technical / Systems / Gameplay design capacity.
- Programming background using object-oriented languages (C#/C++ or similar) including creating tools or visual scripting nodes.
- Proven ability to build scalable gameplay logic in Unreal Blueprints or similar.
- A passion for problem solving and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- A positive, proactive mindset with the ability to motivate others and bring out the best in multidisciplinary teams.
- A can-do mindset and a genuine drive to support the whole team by mentoring others and sharing knowledge.
