Senior Technical Designer

Senior Technical Designer – Core Gameplay Pillar

We are a crowdfunded company dedicated to building the "Best Damn Space Sim Ever". Cloud Imperium Games (CIG), the creators of Star Citizen and Squadron 42, are looking for an enthusiastic and technically minded Senior Technical Designer to join our UK studio in the heart of Manchester.

About the Role

This Senior Technical Designer position is based in our Core Gameplay Pillar. Our team designs and develops actor-centric gameplay systems used across Squadron 42 and Star Citizen's Persistent Universe.

We are at the core of actor-based gameplay, shaping engaging core gameplay loops that set the standard for our products. In this role, you’ll:

  • Design and implement innovative gameplay systems
  • Develop engineering solutions to complex technical challenges
  • Collaborate with designers, artists, and programmers to deliver high-quality, immersive experiences

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and mentor systems designers, level designers, and design leadership in shaping gameplay vision, interfaces, and in-game moments
  • Own the implementation, optimization, and maintenance of level scripting
  • Build prototypes and test levels that showcase, validate, and document game features, systems, and bespoke experiences
  • Bridge the gap between designers, artists, and engineers to create high-level experiences that push engine capabilities
  • Work closely with UI, Art, and programming teams to design and deliver front-, in-game, and user interface features using modern UI/UX best practices

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
