Senior Technical Engineer - Birmingham (Hybrid)
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Technical Engineer to take direct, personal ownership of TXP's Azure estate, Microsoft 365 platform and end user compute environment. This is TXP's most senior hands-on technical role within internal IT, responsible for keeping our own technology running to the standard we deliver for clients.
You will work closely with TXP's IT Manager to translate strategic direction, including AI adoption and emerging Microsoft technology priorities, into practical, well engineered changes to the estate. This role suits someone who wants to stay close to the technology and the keyboard, not manage from a distance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on desktop, infrastructure and application support across approximately 200 laptops and 400 user accounts, acting as the senior technical point of escalation.
- Act as the senior hands-on technical authority for TXP's internal IT estate, setting direction on architecture, standards and tooling.
- Own the end user compute strategy across approximately 200 corporate laptops, including build standards, patching, lifecycle management and refresh planning.
- Take direct, hands-on ownership of TXP's Azure estate, including identity, networking, core infrastructure and cost management.
- Trial and implement AI-enabled productivity and automation tools identified as priorities by the IT Manager, providing technical feedback on what works in practice.
- Own the technical security posture of TXP's end user compute and cloud environment, including endpoint protection, patching and vulnerability management.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
