Job Summary
Join DWP Digital as a Senior Technical Lead within Corporate Centre Services, where you will support our corporate colleagues to solve real business problems and enhance user experiences across critical internal services.
This role sits at the heart of DWP’s digital transformation, ensuring that technology and platforms align to wider strategic business aims while enabling efficient, user-centred services across areas such as HR, finance, commercial and estates.
We’re especially interested in individuals with a proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders, navigating organisational complexity, and driving improvements that support service transformation. Experience of enhancing how digital content and platforms are used across corporate services will be highly valuable.
You will lead the evolution in shaping how platforms, content, and engineering practices evolve to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality services for colleagues across the organisation.

Job Description
As a Senior Technical Lead within Corporate Centre Services, you will collaborate with Product and Delivery leadership to define and drive the technical direction of multi-disciplinary teams delivering enterprise-scale services.
You will operate at the heart of a complex organisational landscape, influencing senior leaders, aligning to strategic architecture, and driving improvements that support service transformation across corporate and analytical platforms.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Leading the technical strategy for cloud-based platforms, ensuring alignment with DWP’s Strategic Reference Architecture and Departmental Data Strategy.
- Influencing and advising senior stakeholders on technical direction, investment priorities, and service improvements.
- Driving adoption of DevOps best practices across teams, enabling continuous delivery and operational excellence at scale.
- Supporting teams to design, build and operate secure, resilient services in highly regulated environments.
- Championing improvements in observability, monitoring, and live service support to ensure high availability and performance.
- Enabling the use of infrastructure as code and automation to improve consistency, scalability and delivery speed.
- Building capability across engineering teams through mentoring, coaching, and technical leadership.
- Working across corporate services and product teams to improve how platforms and supporting content enable colleagues to complete tasks effectively.
- Collaborating with security, infrastructure and operations teams to ensure services meet compliance, resilience and governance requirements.
- Managing technical roadmaps and ensuring delivery aligns with organisational priorities and user needs.

Hybrid Working
This role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work.
If a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for the role and for you, you will normally be required to spend a minimum of 60% of your contracted working hours from your DWP office.

Salary Information
Pay for this role is from £75,026 to £92,522.
The maximum salary for the grade is £80,267 however a Digital Allowance of up to £12,255 per annum is available for exceptional candidates. Digital Allowance is non-salary, and non-pensionable, and is classed as a temporary allowance. It is reviewed annually where it could be retained, amended, or removed.
Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.
Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer will maintain their current substantive salary.

Any temporary allowances that you are currently in receipt of will not form part of the calculation to determine your pay. Any allowances that are in payment will cease when you move into your new role.

Selection process details
This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Experience and Technical skills.
Stage 1: Application
Your Application Will Consist Of Four Parts:
- A Personal Details application form.
- Employment history - this should contain your work experience and any skills, qualifications and accomplishments relevant to the jobs you have completed.
- Personal statement - up to 1000 words. This statement should be used to provide examples of how you meet the essential criteria below:
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and navigate complex organisations to drive technical, service, and strategic improvements.
- Strong DevOps expertise, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform), automation, and improving observability and live service support.
- Experience providing technical leadership for the design and delivery of technology solutions, ensuring alignment with architecture standards, security requirements, governance processes, and organisational objectives.
- Experience of leading and supporting Engineers in multi-disciplinary teams in an agile environment and sharing knowledge and good practice with the wider organisation.
- Experience delivering technology change on enterprise platforms that improves user experience, service quality, and business outcomes.
- Technical statement (up to 250 words). The following statement is aligned to the required technical skill of "Technical breadth". This statement should be used to provide example(s) of how you meet the criterion below:
- Significant experience designing and delivering secure, cloud-based solutions (AWS and/or Azure) in large-scale enterprise or government environments.
Ensure that all examples provided in your statements are taken directly from your own experience and that you describe the examples in your own words. The sift panel will use the information in your employment history, personal statement, and technical statement to assess your experience, skills and knowledge.
An initial sift will be conducted using the technical statement. Candidates who pass the initial sift will be progressed to a full sift.
If you do progress to a full sift, you will be provided with one combined overall assessment score for both your employment history and Personal Statement.

Personal details that could be used to identify you including your name, contact details and address must be removed for your application to be considered. If your employment history, personal statement or technical statement contain any personal details your application will be withdrawn.
Stage 2: Interview
If you’re successful at the sift stage, you’ll be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. During the interview, you’ll be assessed against the experience criteria listed under both the essential criteria and technical skill.
You will be asked to do a 10 minute presentation on a specific topic. Further details will be provided to candidates invited to interview.
Interviews will take place from the end of August 2026. Interview dates to be confirmed.
