  • Location: Fully hybrid across Ageas UK offices (London, Eastleigh, Bournemouth) with remote work accommodated

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Ageas’s Underwriting department, within the Broker Technical Pricing team. This team is responsible for developing specialist statistical risk models for key Broker insurance products, including Private Car, Van, Bike, and Household.

This is a high-impact, research-driven role, giving the successful candidate a unique opportunity to:

  • Explore and leverage new data science technologies
  • Drive strategic change by enhancing model sophistication
  • Implement cutting-edge analytical techniques
  • Deliver profitable business growth through intelligent pricing

The role demands proactive candidates with a proven track record in independent research and an ability to:

  • Drive complex projects from concept to implementation
  • Contribute to high-impact actuarial insights and pricing solutions

Additionally, generous study support will be provided to bolster your progress toward actuarial qualification.


Main Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining complex, robust actuarial models, then interpreting results to drive innovative pricing that delivers high business impact
  • Assisting with ad-hoc actuarial and statistical analyses, liaising with cross-functional teams to solve business-wide problem sets
  • Producing detailed reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate model outputs to key stakeholders
  • Continuously challenging existing methodologies—identifying new analytical approaches that unlock operational efficiencies and business insights

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

  • Strong academic foundation: A in Mathematics* or numerate A-levels
  • Degree qualification: 2:1 (or equivalent) in a numerate discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics)
  • Highly desirable: A PhD or research-based master’s degree to reflect this R&D-focused role
  • Exceptional analytical skills, demonstrating the ability to:
    • Manipulate and derive insights from complex datasets
    • Structure and investigate multilayered problems
    • Think logically and laterally in a research-heavy capacity
  • Proven ability to deliver self-directed projects—from conceptualisation to execution

Desirable

  • Experience in actuarial pricing or statistical modelling, particularly in a regulated multi-divisional industry
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques (examples: GBMs, Elastic Net Regression, Random Forests), preferably implemented in Python or R
  • Hands-on experience with industry-specific software (e.g., Emblem)
  • Ability to collaborate with teams to drive buy-in, influencing strategy while presenting clearly and persuasively
