Senior Technical Program Manager

Technical Program Manager – AI Infrastructure

Microsoft Research, United Kingdom

About the Role

At Microsoft Research, we drive the future of AI infrastructure by pursuing groundbreaking research that forms the next generation of AI platforms. Our work spans models, systems, software, and hardware, and we collaborate with Azure engineering teams and external partners to translate cutting-edge concepts into production-ready solutions.

This Technical Program Manager (TPM) role will bridge research breakthroughs with cloud-scale deployment. You will work at the intersection of optics, photonics, packaging, networking, and AI system design, shaping early-stage research into actionable roadmaps, driving hardware-software integration, and aligning stakeholders across Microsoft Research, Azure, and external suppliers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Translate research into production: Convert Microsoft Research concepts and applied R&D into shippable cloud AI capabilities, designing roadmaps and ensuring end-to-end program execution.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work with MSR researchers, Azure engineers, and external vendors to solve technical challenges spanning models, systems, and hardware while weighing trade-offs and risks.
  • Define and track milestones: Establish technical success criteria, launch plans, and cross-team commitments to steer programs from prototype to general availability.
  • Manage program architecture: Lead roadmap development, scheduling, staging, and rollout for multi-team, multi-quarter initiatives touching research, Azure, and supplier ecosystems.
  • Bridge research and production: Validate real-world use cases using cloud AI workloads, measure performance/ruckout at scale, and feed feedback into ongoing platform improvements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
