About the Water Utilities Division
The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for water challenges in the UK and Ireland. Our teams deliver end-to-end solutions—from strategic advice to detailed design—for water treatment, distribution, stormwater systems, river health, and sustainably managed sewerage.
Work covers:
- Water distribution, storage, and treatment
- Storm overflow, SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems)
- Wastewater drainage and recycling
- Desalination projects
Our clients include UK water utility companies and international organisations.
Overview of the Role
This Permanent, Full-Time position requires a Technical Project Manager (Water & Wastewater) to lead projects during AMP8, ensuring compliance, cost/efficiency, and stakeholder satisfaction. You will:

Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering Water & Wastewater Projects
- Lead multidisciplinary teams across the project lifecycle
- Manage design, construction support, and delivery consulting
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key interface, building trusted relationships
- Interface with UK water companies and public/private sector clients
- Risk & Compliance Management
- Mitigate risks, maintain budgets/timescales
- Ensure alignment with regulatory frameworks, AMPs, and CDM regulations
- Operational Oversight
- Oversee forecasting, programme control, and reporting
- Support bid/proposal submissions, bringing technical and commercial expertise

Candidate Specification
Essentials:
✔ Degree-qualified in engineering, water science, or related field ✔ Demonstrable project management experience in UK water/wastewater infrastructure ✔ Experience managing multidisciplinary teams across all project lifecycle stages ✔ Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills ✔ Risk assessment & mitigation expertise in water/engineering ✔ Ability to work independently with mentorship attitude
Desirable:
🔹 APEM PMQ / MAPM qualifications (or equivalent) 🔹 Familiarity with UK AMP frameworks 🔹 Knowledge of CDM regulations and design management 🔹 Bid/tender experience
