Senior Technical Writer
Technical Writer – Documentation Team (Full-Time, Hybrid, Montréal)
About the Role
At Unity, we believe the world is a better place with more creators. The Documentation Team plays a vital role in empowering these creators by ensuring that our technical content is clear, accurate, and inspiring. In this position, you will:
- Develop a deep technical understanding of Unity products by collaborating closely with engineering teams.
- Create and maintain high-quality documentation (guides, API references, SDKs, code samples) that educates developers and users effectively.
- Establish writing standards, styles, and best practices across Unity’s global content library.
- Advocate for user-centric clarity during feature development to improve workflows and product usability.
This role is based at Montréal and offers a **full-time position with a hybrid working option and a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Maintain and update technical documentation (user guides, developer documentation, API references, SDKs, code samples) across Unity’s product suite.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers to understand underlying technology, target audiences, and documentation needs.
- Work closely with the global documentation team to ensure consistency, accuracy, and usability in content creation.
- Advocate for user needs during feature development to enhance workflows and product accessibility.

Requirements
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English (professional competence is critical due to frequent global collaboration).
- Strong technical background with familiarity in software development workflows and concepts.
- Ability to simplify complex technical information into clear, concise, user-centric documentation.
- Proficiency managing tasks in a global, multi-timezone team with active communication exceeding expectations.
- English fluency required for daily written and verbal collaboration with international colleagues.
Nice-to-Have (Additional Advantages)
- Experience with object-oriented programming, game development, digital art, or real-time 3D technology.
- Familiarity with source control systems (Git, Subversion).
- Experience in documentation for software, APIs, or game engines.
