Senior Technician

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Technician to join our expanding North West and Midlands Roads business. As one of the world’s leading engineering firms, WSP provides integrated design services for projects across highways, drainage and civil infrastructure, serving private developers, local authorities, National Highways, National Grid and East West Rail.
About the Role
Your key responsibility will be to serve as a technical technical lead—driving excellence in our engineering outputs, maintaining quality control and acting as a trusted guide for our dynamic, high-performing team. You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Produce technical engineering information, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
- ** Lead CAD quality assurance** for the team, upholding rigorous standards across our project portfolio.
- Support design development, leveraging expertise in highways, drainage and civil infrastructure in both small and moderately complex projects.
- Conduct site visits and investigations, gathering critical data vital for successful project execution.
- Promote safe working practices, actively contributing to risk assessments and compliant operations.
You’ll work alongside a skilled team of engineers, mentoring junior staff while also accessing mentorship and career support from senior leadership.
Responsibilities
You’ll play a pivotal role in:
✅ Technical delivery & quality assurance
- Ensuring all engineering outputs meet industry standards.
- Acting as a CAD quality champion, guiding teams and upholding best practices.

What We Look For
We’re recruiting exceptional candidates who demonstrate:
🔹 Technical proficiency:
- Competency in CAD software, including: AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads.
- Experience applying CAD quality standards across diverse project types.
🔹 Education & certification:
- Level 3 qualification (or higher) in a STEM field (or equivalent with relevant work experience).
- EngTech registration (or equivalent professional qualification) with attempted or in-process certification bearings.
🔹 Technical & analytical knowledge:
- Strong understanding of highway engineering principles, including technical standards, procedures and fabrication techniques.
- Experience with data handling using Microsoft Excel or similar tools.
🔹 Mentoring & collaboration:
- Ability to train other employees on both software usage and engineering drawing standards.
- Excellent communication—with clients, developers, elected representatives and the public.
🔹 Attention to detail & organization:
- Analytical, detail-oriented mindset to minimise errors in technical drawings/ outputs.
- Strong problem-solving ability to address technical challenges efficiently.
