Salary: £34,588 – £39,144 per annum (Grade 6), inclusive of London weighting, with potential progression to £41,292 through exceptional performance

About the Role
Technical Services at Brunel University is seeking a senior-level, hands-on professional to enhance its biomechanics capabilities.
This is a unique opportunity to join during a crucial investment phase:
- A £540,000 Wolfson Foundation grant is funding a new, fully accessible biomechanics laboratory, opening in 2026.
- You will support existing facilities while actively contributing to the planning, setup, and operational running of this state-of-the-art facility.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Technician (Biomechanics), you will:
Teaching & Research Support
- Operate and maintain specialist biomechanics equipment, including:
- Motion capture systems
- Force plates
- Electromyography (EMG)
- Instrumented treadmills and walkways
- Dynamometers
- Ensure high standards of data quality for students and researchers
- Provide technical guidance to staff and students across all levels, including independent maintenance and troubleshooting
- Support equipment setup, calibration, and data processing—preferred experience with MATLAB or Python but not essential

Laboratory Management & Development
- Operate autonomously, leading the expansion of biomechanical capabilities at Brunel
- Contribute to laboratory development and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain a safe and efficient multi-user environment, adhering to all laboratory health and safety protocols
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Work within a dynamic technical team to deliver impactful outcomes
- Develop long-term working relationships with academic staff, enhancing experimental and research activities
- Foster a proactive and problem-solving attitude to support a growing facility
Requirements & Experience
Essential Criteria
- Proven, hands-on experience in operating and maintaining biomechanics laboratory equipment
- Experience supporting teaching and research activity in a biomechanical environment
- Ability to work autonomously, diagnosing faults, managing equipment, and providing technical expertise
- Strong organisation skills, communication, and attention to safety regulations

Preferred Advantages
- Knowledge of data processing software (e.g., MATLAB or Python)
- Familiarity with force plate or motion capture instrumentation
- Experience in dynamic research or high-intensity collision monitoring (e.g., Polaris Grid Dynamometry, InteractionWIRE software) is a plus
This is not a graduate entry role. Candidates must demonstrate relevant experience from a laboratory or biomechanics environment.
