Senior Technologist – Dresses and Jersey (4 Days in Office)

This drives That New Look Feeling for our customers and team. We’re looking for a Senior Technologist for our Dresses and Jersey area.
This role involves ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction while driving efficiency through product engineering, supplier management, and continuous improvement. You’ll support the New Look quality framework, deputise for the Technical Manager, and act as a cross-departmental mentor.
Responsibilities
Quality Leadership
- Drive the New Look quality framework within the Dresses and Jersey area to align with customer expectations and regulatory standards
- Ensure quality processes align with BMD (Business Management & Development) team critical path
- Collaborate on cross-departmental activities, consolidating quality strategies and improving value, cost price, and lead time
- Represent the quality team in business forums and advocate for customer-centric transformation
- Implement best practice across technologists, suppliers, and stakeholders—act as a mentor, coach, and change driver
Customer & Market Insights
- Translate customer insights into actionable product improvements
- Conduct regular Store/Distribution Centre visits to observe quality delivery and feedback
- Benchmark competitor offerings and trend updates to drive innovation
- Utilise data-driven decisions to enhance product consistency, fit for purpose, and regulatory compliance
Manufacturing & Supplier Partnerships
- Leverage manufacturing expertise to optimise product suitability, construct, and cost
- Apply comprehensive supply chain knowledge to secure qualified, capable suppliers
- Negotiate solutions to deliver high-value products within cost and quality constraints
- Identify knowledge transfer opportunities for the wider BMD and quality teams

Risk & Regulatory Assurance
- Champion risk assessment as a strategic framework element for Dresses & Jersey
- Devolve outside-quality-framework products through systematic risk management and improvement feedback
- Provide global legal compliance advise to ensure fit for purpose and brand consistency
Product Specification & Fit
- Specify materials, construction techniques, fit standards (including body shape, pattern technology, grading economies)
- Ensure packaging and labelling align with brand identity and compliance directives
- Develop efficient, minimal-value-loss transport methods while maintaining product quality
Leadership & Training
- Line manage, mentor, and develop team members
- Champion internal and external best practice
- Sign offs, technical audits, and delegated management responsibilities during Technical Manager’s absence

What You’ll Bring
Essential Criteria
- Specialist knowledge in Dresses, Jersey, or Woven production—experience in both quality control and manufacturing environments
- Strong technical expertise in:
- Supplier selection, negotiation, and risk assessment
- Product testing, manual sourcing, and Fit sessions
- Front-end sampling origin needs, alignment with costing
- Open costing skills, engaging with buyers to fine-tune product directions
- BMD & supplier partnerships – experience as a constructive operator
- 5+ years’ experience as a Technologist/Senior Technologist in a retail environment
- Degree, certification or apprenticeship in technology/textiles/apparel, or manufacturing disciplines
Desirable Qualities
- Influencing & delegation skills – assertive, persuasive, and solution-focused in cross-departmental meetings
- Natural leadership – proactive in encouraging self-review, performance upgrades, and team cohesion
- Commercial metrics review – familiarity with KPIs, data interpretation, and SMART changes
- Technical auditing – practical application of compliance auditing, discrepancy compilation, and corrective actions
- Technical aspects expanded – ability to adapt, delegate, and transfer advanced techniques to employees
