About the Role
This role sits within the Castrol ring-fence, meaning your employment will transfer to Castrol should there be a change in ownership. As part of bp’s integrated energy portfolio, we focus on driving the world’s energy transition sustainably—with a goal of achieving net zero operations by 2050.
As a Junior Technologist within the Product Development team, you’ll execute and participate in projects that pioneer new lubricants for market release. You’ll work at the forefront of technical development, collaborating globally to ensure products align with key customer needs.
This role offers exposure to the full product lifecycle—from testing and formulation to deployment—and encourages you to grow expertise in engineering, research, R&D, or product development, while fostering innovation across the wider team.
Key Accountabilities
- Project Delivery & Testing:
- Design, execute, and document test programmes for new product development, ensuring on-time and on-budget completion.
- Manage $50k–$1m budgets, refining cost control and forecasting.
- Drive technical performance assessments and dissect impacts observed, requiring rigorous planning and documentation.

Collaboration & Networking:
- Build internal relationships with subject matter experts (e.g., testing, quality, intellectual property, and innovation) and operational staff.
- Engage externally with suppliers, technical consultancies, OEMs, marketing, and legal teams to gather insights and drive decision-making.
- Maintain clear communication with cross-functional project teams, sharing progress updates.

Knowledge Sharing & Growth:
- Develop and disseminate expertise, ensuring continuous improvement in product development.
- Contribute to scientific/publication outputs and thought leadership in lubricant technology.
Requirements
Education
A degree or equivalent in chemistry, engineering, or a related technical discipline is essential.
Experience & Skills
Essential
- Strong track record in product development, engineering, or research, with demonstrated project experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively, leveraging team resources effectively.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Experience in designing experimental or analytical methods to drive innovation.
Desirable
- Prior experience in lubricant, additive, automotive, or manufacturing industries.
- Hands-on knowledge of fuel/ lubricants technology, mechanical engineering, or product development processes.
- Familiarity with automotive and systems engineering principles.

Key Details
- Travel Requirement: Up to 25% travel for internal/external engagements.
