Senior Technologist, PD - Castrol

Technologist – Product Development

Job Family Group: Research & Technology Group

About the Role

This is a role within Castrol as part of our ring-fence (transfer to new ownership). Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow—sustainably and toward net zero by 2050. The Technologist in the Product Development team will execute and collaborate on projects to develop new lubricants for market deployment. As part of a high-profile team, you’ll engage with global networks, ensure customer and stakeholder requirements are met, and work autonomously while sharing expertise with the wider team.

The successful candidate will be required to relocate to the UK for employment and will need to obtain appropriate Visa/study permit work Authorization.

Key Accountabilities

  • Execute and manage product development projects

    • Lead development and testing programmes to introduce new products and understand observed impacts.
    • Ensure timely and on-budget delivery of key milestones through effective planning, execution, and documentation.
  • Financial and risk management

    • Manage project budgets ranging from $50k to $1m, including cost tracking and forecasting.

  • Strategic internal & external collaborations

    • Build partnerships with subject matter experts, operational staff, product testing, product quality, IP management, and research discovery (ROFLAG).
    • Engage externally with suppliers, technical consultancies, OEMs, marketing, and Castrol Legal, presenting areas where Castrol could strive for success.
  • Team facilitation & innovation

    • Develop and share expertise to support continuous improvement in Product Development.
  • Global engagement

    • Network globally to align market needs with product development.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Project delivery track record in research, product development, or engineering, with passion for innovation.
  • Strong collaborative skills and interpersonal communication to influence and persuade diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in designing experimental work programmes.

Desirable Assets

  • Direct experience in lubricants, additives, or automotive/industrial sectors.
  • Knowledge of product development processes, fuels & lubricants technology, MEshi (mechanical engineering & systems), or related disciplines.
  • Technical familiarity with automotive/engineering systems.

Location & Working Arrangement

✅ Job type: Full-time, hybrid (office/remote). 🌍 Travel required: Up to 25%. ✈ Relocation eligible? No.
