About The Role
Lead the delivery of a GBRX innovation portfolio focused on addressing systemic challenges across infrastructure, operations, technology, and data. This role is accountable for translating strategic goals into coordinated delivery activity, shaping the delivery plan, and managing teams and partners to realise measurable value.
You will provide leadership across a range of complex workstreams, manage cross-sector relationships, and drive portfolio performance. This includes aligning resources, managing risk, overseeing delivery assurance, and representing GBRX in senior forums. The role is central to building credibility, momentum, and integrating varying innovation and technology outcomes across the portfolio.

This role will require you to
- Independently lead the delivery of a high-impact Network Operations innovation portfolio, taking full accountability for performance, alignment with GBRX strategy, operational relevance, and long-term value.
- Develop clear delivery plans that translate strategic Network Operations objectives into integrated workstreams from ambiguous developments - covering pilots, systems, data, operational transformation, control-room adoption and cross-industry dependencies.
- Develop and shape innovation and technology opportunities within the Network Operations portfolio, using external partnerships, industry insight and operational evidence to grow a coherent pipeline of priority interventions.
- Identify and resolve delivery challenges in a complex operational stakeholder environment, using judgement, evidence and influence to manage risks, unblock dependencies and adapt plans when needed.
- Lead senior stakeholder engagement across Network Operations, building trusted relationships with operators, control teams, System Operator, DDaT, routes, industry bodies, government and delivery partners to align priorities, secure support and promote the portfolio's wider impact.

- Proven ability to operate credibly in complex operational, infrastructure or transport environments, with the judgement to understand specialist stakeholder needs, operational constraints and system-wide dependencies.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with proven ability to influence and align senior leaders, technical specialists and operational teams across a complex, politically sensitive stakeholder landscape.
- Ability to shape ambiguous operational problems into clear portfolio opportunities, delivery plans and evidence-led interventions that can be tested, scaled or stopped.
Desirable experience
- Knowledge of UK rail Network Operations, including incident management, train service recovery, performance management, control-room environments, operational systems or related railway operational processes.
- Exposure to data-led operational decision support, AI-enabled insight, system integration, scenario modelling, or operational performance analytics.
- Experience working across operators, infrastructure managers, System Operator, DDaT, industry bodies, suppliers or other cross-industry delivery partners.
