Senior Technology Consultant – Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) & Smart Mobility

Our Technology Services team is seeking a Senior Technology Consultant to contribute to the delivery of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV), Smart Cities, Mobility, and technology-led transport projects across the UK and globally.
With a diverse client portfolio—ranging from National Transport Authorities, Combined Authorities, Local Authorities and Contractors to private sector organisations—this role ensures your insights drive transformative transport solutions.
Current & Recent Projects
Key contributions include:
- Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) and Cooperative ITS (C-ITS) innovations
- Mobility as a Service (MaaS) ecosystem development
- Smart Motorways planning, design, and performance assessments
- Next-generation mobility solutions, vehicle testbeds, and autonomous trials
- ITS strategies and transformational transport programmes for authorities
- Traffic management, telecommunication networks, and speed enforcement systems
- Sustainable transport developments, including EV charging infrastructure and depot decarbonisation
The team provides end-to-end project leadership, from feasibility and design through to performance monitoring, ensuring world-leading technical expertise throughout the lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Deliver specialist consultancy and design services for full project lifecycle in:
- Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)
- Smart Cities
- Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV)
- Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS)
- Drive research, data analysis, and trend forecasting to propose future-forward mobility solutions
- Capture and translate client, stakeholder, and user requirements into technical designs, system architectures, and reports

Technology & Problem-Solving
- Evaluate emerging technologies to address real-world transport challenges
- Conduct feasibility, options analysis, and design tasks aligned with client objectives
- Ensure quality assurance of technical deliverables against client briefs and AECOM standards
Stakeholder & Client Engagement
- Work directly with transport authorities, operators, and private sector clients to understand needs and deliver actionable solutions
- Act as a technology scout, identifying and promoting cutting-edge innovations
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BEng or equivalent) in:
- Electrical/Engineering
- Electronics
- Computer Science
- Telecommunications Engineering
- Mathematics or Physics
- Proven experience in Smart Cities, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV), Mobility as a Service (MaaS), or communications infrastructure design
- Strong technical knowledge of ITS solutions and their applications in modern transportation
- Hands-on expertise in market trends, regulatory challenges, and emerging mobility technologies
- Ability to lead feasibility studies, client engagements, and multistakeholder collaborations
