Senior Technology Consultant – Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) & Smart Cities

Our Technology Services team is seeking a Senior Technology Consultant to deliver cutting-edge Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV), Smart Cities, and Mobility solutions across the UK and globally.
The team provides a range of services—from strategic advisory to technical research, design, and project delivery—collaborating with clients primarily in the transportation sector, though this role may also extend to other industries owing to its specialised nature.
Our client base is diverse, including:
- National, Combined, and Local Transport Authorities
- Contractors and public/private sector organisations
- Global and UK-based AECOM business units
Key Projects & Responsibilities
Recent & Current Work
- Deploying Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) and Cooperative ITS (C-ITS)
- Implementing Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions
- Designing and delivering Smart Motorways, operational performance assessments, and digital transport strategies
- Conducting autonomous vehicle trials and connected vehicle testbed development
- Framing ITS strategies, action plans, and transformative programmes for transport authorities
- Building control centres, telecommunications networks, speed enforcement systems, and traffic management solutions
- Supporting EV charging infrastructure, renewable transport energy projects, and decarbonisation initiatives

The Technology Services team offers technical leadership across the project lifecycle, encompassing:
- Feasibility and preliminary/detailed designs
- Performance monitoring and assessment
Core Responsibilities
- Provide specialist technical consultancy and design services for ITS, Smart Cities, CAV, and Mobility projects.
- Track emerging technologies and explore opportunities to keep AECOM at the forefront of next-gen mobility and ITS.
- Lead research, data analysis, and technical reports, developing evidence-based recommendations.
- Capture and manage client, stakeholder, and user requirements, producing system architectures, design documentation.
- Assess current and future technologies, proposing pragmatic solutions to client challenges.
- Conduct feasibility studies, detailed design work, and solution-based problem analysis.
- Ensure technical deliverables meet client expectations and AECOM’s quality standards.
Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Degree (BEng or equivalent) in:
- Electrical/Electronics Engineering
- Computer Science
- Telecommunications Engineering
- Mathematics or Physics
- Relevant professional experience in:
- Smart Cities, ITS, Connected & Automated Vehicles (CAV), MaaS, or network design
- Technical knowledge of mobility trends, challenges, and ITS-driven solutions
- Strong skills in:
- Stakeholder engagement
- Feasibility & options studies
- Client-focused delivery
