Balfour Beatty is recruiting for an experienced Senior Temporary Works Engineer to join our Regional Scotland team, supporting the delivery of the high-profile ASTI project in Aberdeen.
This is a key role within our Temporary Works function, providing safe, innovative, and buildable design solutions that enable our site teams to deliver major infrastructure works efficiently and safely.
What you'll be doing
The Opportunity
As a Senior Temporary Works Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering temporary works designs that adhere to BS5975 and Balfour Beatty’s Management of Temporary Works procedures.
You’ll collaborate with engineers, designers, supply chain partners, and construction teams to develop compliant, cost-effective, and practical solutions for the ASTI project.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality temporary works designs, including calculations, drawings, and design statements.
- Perform category I, II, and III design checks and associated certification.
- Prepare Designers’ Risk Assessments and communicate residual risks clearly.
- Provide buildable, safe, and efficient temporary works solutions aligned with permanent works methodology.
- Lead value-engineering initiatives to optimize safety, cost, and programme outcomes.
- Support site teams with expert technical advice and respond promptly to queries.
- Liaise effectively with permanent works designers, supply chain partners, and third-party stakeholders.
- Contribute to assurance activities including audits, technical reviews, and design coordination.
- Promote our Zero Harm culture and champion high standards of safety and sustainability.
Who we're looking for
You Will Bring
- Strong civil engineering knowledge and experience delivering temporary works on major infrastructure or energy projects.
- Working knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards, DMRB, CIRIA guidance, and associated software (e.g., CADS, Geo5, Tekla Tedds, Robot).
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, and maintain high technical standards.
- A proactive, collaborative, and positive mindset aligned with Balfour Beatty’s values.
Desirable
- Degree in civil/structural engineering.
- Chartered or working toward ICE/IStructE membership.
- AutoCAD/Civils 3D drawing capability.
- Experience in project-based construction environments.
