Job Description
The role will involve supporting the Test Assurance Manager and Leads in test planning, management and execution activities for our Control Room products, including new features; existing product functionality and the re-testing of defects found during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) & Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
You should have a strong background in software product testing and will support a range of testing activities across multiple projects, including test strategy, planning, management, leadership, defect management and process improvements. You should have the ability to learn complex software systems, provide testing support to the wider team and undertake testing management duties, which will ensure the integrity of the production environments for our customers.
The successful candidate will be expected to travel to various NEC offices and customer sites throughout the year, where they will work alongside team members and liaise with stakeholders across Fire Service and Police Force project teams.
Job Purpose:
The Senior Test Analyst plays a key role in delivering high-quality testing across NEC's product portfolio. Depending on project requirements, the role may involve leading end-to-end test activities, including test planning, estimation, reporting, and coordination of Test Analysts, or taking ownership of the design and execution of test cases to ensure solutions meet agreed quality standards.
Working closely with project, development, and test teams, the successful candidate will contribute throughout the testing lifecycle, from requirements and specification reviews through to test analysis, test design, execution, defect management, and reporting.
The Senior Test Analyst will apply appropriate testing methodologies, tools, and techniques while adhering to established standards and processes. The role is responsible for validating that new and enhanced systems, configurations, interfaces, services, and software releases perform as specified and meet business requirements.
The role also involves providing quality-related feedback, assessing testing impacts and risks, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and producing knowledge transfer documentation where required to support the successful adoption of new software and processes.
Role Requirements:
- Produce and maintain testing artefacts including test plans, schedules, progress reports, and completion reports to support successful project delivery
- Manage FAT and SAT testing activities, ensuring appropriate test coverage, resources, environments, and support are in place to meet project timelines
- Provide regular updates to internal and external stakeholders on testing progress, quality metrics, and defect status through reports and dashboards.
- Coordinate testing activities with customers, vendors, partners, and third parties throughout the project lifecycle
- Lead defect management activities, including defect triage, prioritisation, investigation, and resolution tracking
- Identify, manage, and communicate testing risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies
- Review requirements and design specifications, translating them into test scenarios, test cases, and test data where required
- Provide guidance and support to Test Analysts during test preparation and execution activities
- Contribute to non-functional testing activities and other specialist test activities where required
- Drive continuous improvement by reviewing and enhancing testing processes, procedures, techniques, and tools
- Promote industry best practice, remaining informed of emerging testing trends, technologies, and approaches, and recommending improvements that enhance team capability and effectiveness

Qualifications
Experience Required:
- Minimum 5 years commercial software testing experience, with a strong understanding of the full Testing Lifecycle within Agile and Waterfall delivery environments
- Proven experience leading and coordinating testing activities across multiple projects and releases
- Strong knowledge of functional and non-functional testing techniques, methodologies, and best practices across the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
- Experience in defect management, including defect triage, prioritisation, and resolution tracking
- Demonstrable experience in data migration, data reconciliation, and cross-platform testing, including web, mobile, and browser-based applications
- Strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across technical and business teams
- Proactive approach to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and the adoption of industry best practices
- Experience supporting non-functional test initiatives and identifying opportunities to improve testing efficiency and effectiveness
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies, share knowledge effectively, and contribute to the ongoing development of testing processes, tools, and standards

- Higher / further / appropriate educational qualification(s) or demonstrable equivalent experience
- Qualified to ISTQB Intermediate level (desirable)
- Automated Testing Tool qualifications (desirable)
- Mobile Testing Tool qualifications (desirable)
