Senior Test Automation Engineer
Position Description
At CGI, we help deliver some of the UK’s most important digital transformation programmes, using innovative technology and collaborative delivery to create meaningful outcomes for our clients. As a Test Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building confidence in the quality of complex solutions through robust test automation, modern testing practices and continuous improvement. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of your work, contribute new ideas, support the development of others, and help shape high-quality delivery within an environment that invests in your growth and empowers you to make a lasting impact.
CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.
Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. Aligned to your nearest CGI base location, you'll benefit from the flexibility of working predominantly remotely, with occasional travel to client sites in Newcastle, Bristol, Leeds and Telford as required. A willingness to travel to Telford is essential for this role.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will help deliver high-quality software by planning, designing and executing effective testing activities across complex digital programmes. You'll contribute to the development of robust automated test solutions, improve testing frameworks and collaborate closely with development, DevOps and delivery teams to build quality into every stage of the software lifecycle. You'll also have the opportunity to influence testing approaches, mentor colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance delivery outcomes for both CGI and our clients.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
