Salary:
£44,147 to £61,950
Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with broad bands. The salary range shown reflects the approved grade band for this role, or a narrower hiring range published within that band, and is benchmarked against the external market. Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.
About the Role
Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Test Solutions Engineer to join the Test Solutions team supporting several projects. Ideally you will have a mix of Systems and Hardware engineering as a background and want to progress your career to the next level.
The role offers hybrid working from home and onsite at our Luton site. The role is within the Surveillance and Protection Technologies (S&PT) business area. The role will entail dealing with multiple internal and external clients on a project-by-project basis to develop and deliver world class test solutions and system designs.
We are looking for a Senior Test Solutions Engineer to join the engineering team to work on several projects. This role will involve being part of an exciting programme, working to deliver key technologies for the future. Working within a multi-disciplined team, you will be responsible for developing requirements, MATLAB modelling and contributing to the RF design analysis, integration and test phase. The role will include reviewing, assessing and providing technical guidance throughout the engineering design process.

What you will do as a Senior Test Solutions Engineer:
- The scope of work can range from design and technical problem solving to test solution development.
- Create and capture Test Equipment Requirements for RF, Digital and Analogue based test systems
- Create and capture Production Test Requirements for main equipment, covering PCB and System Level testing
- Being a key team member contributing to the RF and system design as well as the test and integration activities.
- Assessment of the design integrity of the design prior to formal design reviews.
- Working across the full engineering lifecycle.
- Engagement in engineering technical meetings and suppliers.
- Managing all levels of requirements to enable design and development decisions.
- Influencing requirements and design decisions
- Actively supporting knowledge sharing and exploitation of best practice.
- Producing effective, accurate and concise technical reports and analysis to support key technical decisions for the programme.
- Establishing and maintaining good lines of communication to the Project Engineering Manager/Lead
- Delivering to agreed performance targets
- Actively support knowledge sharing and exploitation of best practice.
- Contributing to IPT decision making at engineering task level
- Participating in continuous improvement activities to develop skills and competencies within the individual’s own engineering discipline
What you’ll bring
We are looking for someone with experience working on complex electronic and electromechanical systems, with an Aerospace and Defence background, with a solid understanding of test equipment development for production use.

In this role you will be a technically minded person with a good understanding of the project lifecycle and familiar with working across all levels within an Integrated Project Team. In addition to this, you will have some exposure to the following:
- Hands-on experience of designing/developing complex Test Solutions for the full lifecycle
- Good understanding of the Systems engineering lifecycle.
- Experience of working with external suppliers and outsourcing complex work packages.
- Experience of NI LabVIEW & TestStand.
- Degree qualified (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of airborne EW Systems
- Exposure to toolsets such as IBM DOORS, and PDM tools
- Knowledge and understanding of test equipment across the platform products
- Knowledge and understanding of Bus Analysers, Spectrum Analysers, RF Power Meters
- Ability to make informed decisions based on obtaining information from the relevant technical sources.
- An excellent and confident communicator and presenter, with the ability to engage with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively manage own time, potentially across multiple activities.
