Senior Theatre Practitioner – Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a competent Senior Theatre Practitioner capable of working across multiple specialties, including deputising in the absence of a team leader.
The role requires maintaining a positive learning environment, while taking every opportunity to develop competencies and encourage self-improvement. Recruitment, training, and the development of theatre staff are critical to delivering safe, efficient, and timely patient care.
The Post Holder must act as an expert resource for clinical staff and students, providing strong supervision, training, and support. Holding a relevant Practice Assessor/Educator qualification is desirable.
Key priorities are patient safety, service excellence, evidence-based practice, and high-quality teamwork. The successful candidate will actively contribute to leadership, practice standards, and departmental development—collaborating closely with the Theatre Management Team to drive positive change.

A practical assessment within the Theatre Department will form part of the interview process for shortlisted candidates.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a competent clinical Scrub Practitioner within designated areas.
- Deliver direct patient care, coordinating and overseeing theatre practice.
- Ensure responsible delivery of clinical activities during assigned shifts.
- Optimise resource use to maintain high-quality care for patients.

About the Organisation (The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital)
The theatre department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital consists of nine operating theatres, covering:
- Major Surgery (Urology, Upper GI & Bariatric, Colo-Rectal)
- Orthopaedic Trauma
- Vascular
- Ophthalmology
- Robotics
- Emergency CEPOD (operational 24/7, depending on clinical demand)
