Job Overview
This post is for Theatre Senior Scrub Nurse for a fixed 1-year contract. The post holder will be based at our network site in Northwick Park. However, the post holder is expected to cover our Ealing or Potters Bar network sites based on service needs.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Assessment, planning, and provision of specialist ophthalmic nursing advice.
- Carrying out specialist nursing procedures in scrub as well as providing care and support in the clinical OPD setting as part of the perioperative pathway.
- Providing supervision to junior staff, students, and may undertake research, lead clinical audits in their own specialist area.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of patients and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centred care principles.
The post holder will also be responsible for:
- The effective and efficient operational supervision of the department; including budgetary awareness, clinical governance, staff development, and training.
- Providing professional leadership within the clinical area and providing direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multidisciplinary team within the area for which they are accountable.
- Involvement in the development of protocols/guidelines and patient information.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria:
- Registered Nurse Level 1 (Adult)
- Relevant clinical post-registration Ophthalmic qualification/extensive ophthalmic experience
Desirable criteria:
- Recognised Clinical Teaching Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria:
- Relevant recent clinical experience
- Experience in delivering Evidence Based Practice
- Demonstrate commitment to act as a preceptor/facilitator
- Experience teaching others and responding to learning needs
- Able to prioritise workload and that of others
Desirable criteria:
- Experience of managing resources
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance
- Demonstrates an understanding of quality issues
Skills/Abilities

- Able to manage a team of staff
- Able to take charge and delegate duties
