Senior Town Planner

Senior Town Planner – Energy & Renewables

Location: London (Hybrid Working Available)

About the Role

An established and growing planning and environmental consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner to join its London office. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering nationally significant energy and renewable infrastructure projects while working alongside a multidisciplinary team of planning, environmental, and technical specialists.

The successful candidate will work on a diverse portfolio of projects across the energy sector, including:

  • Renewable energy generation
  • Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
  • Electricity transmission infrastructure
  • Other low-carbon developments

The role offers the opportunity to contribute to projects supporting the UK's transition to net zero, while providing excellent prospects for career progression.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage planning applications for energy and renewable infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare planning strategies, planning statements, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and liaise with environmental specialists.
  • Manage client relationships and provide strategic planning advice throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Engage with:
    • Local planning authorities
    • Statutory consultees
    • Key stakeholders
  • Support the preparation of:
    • Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
    • Development Consent Order (DCO) projects (where appropriate)
  • Mentor junior members of the planning team and contribute to their professional development.
  • Assist with business development activities, including:
    • Preparing fee proposals
    • Supporting bids for new work

About You

Required

  • A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • Chartered membership of the RTPI (or eligibility to achieve chartership shortly).
  • Significant experience within:
    • A planning consultancy
    • Developer
    • Infrastructure
    • Public sector environment
  • Strong knowledge of the UK planning system, particularly relating to:
    • Energy and infrastructure development
  • Experience delivering:
    • Renewable energy projects
    • Electricity transmission projects
    • Battery storage projects
    • Wider infrastructure projects
  • Excellent skills in:
    • Report writing
    • Communication
    • Stakeholder engagement
  • Strong project management abilities with the confidence to:
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • A proactive and collaborative approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality client service.
