Due to significant infrastructure planning wins and new opportunities, we are looking to hire a Senior Town Planner. You will join a great team, enjoy an interesting and diverse workload, and be given the opportunity to make the most of your abilities.
As our Town Planning team is national, and we support hybrid working, we are flexible in terms of base location. The role can be based from our offices in Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bristol, Chesterfield, Leeds, London Aldgate, Manchester, and Plymouth.
You will work on a range of prestigious infrastructure projects for our clients across:
- Energy transition (e.g., carbon capture and storage, renewable energy)
- Rail and water development
- Large aviation and rail projects
- Housing and mixed-use development consenting
AECOM is a market leader in UK infrastructure development, with experience across over 80 Development Consent Order (DCO) projects. Join us and you could be working on:

You will join an experienced, market-leading infrastructure planning team, with the following key responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination and Delivery
- Assist in the successful delivery of major development applications
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across various project types
- Implement project management, quality, and health & safety principles
Planning Advice and Strategy
- Provide planning advice to colleagues and clients on consent requirements and permitted development
- Conduct planning research, analysis, and feasibility reports
- Contribute to consent strategies for development projects
Documentation and Application Management
- Draft Planning Statements and Design & Access Statements
- Lead, submit, and manage planning applications
- Liaise and negotiate with local planning authorities and key stakeholders
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with the Environmental Impact Assessment team
- Participate in internal and external meetings
Business Development and Project Management
- Contribute to successful commercial tenders
- Further planning research and analysis for commercial projects

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Qualifications (Desirable)
- Degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
- Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or equivalent professional body
Experience
- Demonstrable and relevant experience in planning applications
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of English planning policy and legislation
Skills
- Commercial awareness
- Ability to write clearly and concisely
Personal Qualities
- Client-focused, with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- High commitment to quality
- Flexibility to thrive in hybrid work environments
