Senior Trade Effluent Specialist

Circa £57,000 dependent on skills and experience

Fixed Term Contract – 12 months from October / November 2026, date TBC.

Full time (37 hours), with flexibility for part time Huntingdon

Interviews will be held on or around the 14th and 17th August 2026, due to holidays and availability

Dive into a world of opportunity, and join our team! We are looking for a Senior Trade Effluent Specialist to join our Environmental Permitting and Regulation team!

This role will be accountable for regulating trade effluent (TE), leading TE initiatives and providing advice to Wholesale Service Centre, Water and Water Recycling Services, Operational teams and Alliances.

You will demonstrate leadership skills by providing regulatory guidance, technical support and developing related policies and standards. You will set new standards in line with UK law through the fair and consistent regulation of non-household customers, whilst collaborating with regulators such as Ofwat and the Environment Agency.

This role will be part of the wider Anglian Water environmental community and provide leadership, collaboration and input to ensure Water Industry Act, Urban Waste Water Treatment Regulations, Environmental Permitting Regulations and other relevant legislation is complied with.

Key Responsibilities

  • Role model collaboration; guiding and supporting TE Regulation Officers to navigate and adopt the TE regulation and compliance with UK Law
  • Act as the primary representative for Anglian Water during National and Regional engagements with the Environment Agency and the water industry on TE
  • Exemplify leadership and professionalism whilst leading and influencing the national agenda, the Water Industry Act and the Urban Wastewater Treatment Regulations
  • Take an active role in nurturing the growth of expertise and professional development of the Operational Trade Effluent and Regulatory Sampling teams through mentoring, training and support
  • Monitor, communicate, respond to and implement regulatory changes in legislation and Environment Agency policy
  • Identify and deliver savings through effective recovery of costs through charges reviews for providing a trade effluent function
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement in Health & Safety, ensuring consistent standards are maintained

What does it take to be successful?

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Demonstrate understanding of the regulatory environment, sewerage systems, storm/emergency overflows, and trade effluent
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Basic understanding of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Regulations, Water Industry Act and Urban Wastewater Treatment Regulations
  • Knowledge and experience of customer management and external stakeholder management
  • Excellent communicator able to communicate regulations to a non-legal literate audience
  • Able to work to tight deadlines
  • Role model leadership to internal and external stakeholders
