The Role:
Trading Standards Officers are required to reach a high level of knowledge and experience in order to carry out enforcement activities in specialist technical subjects. The service requires a coordinated approach to ensure that all officers achieve and maintain their competence across a broad range of highly specialised areas.
What you’ll do:
The Senior Trading Standards Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring a training plan for the service and supporting the delivery of operational training sessions which complement their regulatory experience. The role will provide general training support to Trading Standards Officers and will have direct line management responsibilities for any new apprentice officers to support and guide them through their initial development, including any apprenticeship courses.
In addition to the training coordination and support, you will also provide a flexible support resource across a range of legislative areas. You will undertake inspections and sampling, provide advice, investigate complaints, and where necessary take appropriate enforcement action to proactively protect consumers by ensuring a fair and safe trading environment in Hampshire.

We’re seeking a highly motivated and proactive individual with:
- A strong understanding of complex regulatory requirements and the ability to communicate them clearly to diverse audiences.
- Experience working successfully within multi-disciplinary operational teams.
- Excellent organisational skills to prioritise and manage competing workloads effectively.
- A flexible approach and strong work ethic, with the ability to adapt to varied tasks and responsibilities.
- Confidence in delivering training and supporting the development of others, including apprentices.
