Your role

Role

You will take on a significant role within the Traffic and Transportation team working closely with your fellow Engineers and the Group Engineer. We want you to:

  • Lead on the assessment and implementation of all types of Traffic Regulation Orders.
  • Prepare the feasibility and detailed designs for minor highway schemes.
  • Assess, design, and detail solutions to assist pedestrian and cycles movements.
  • Provide traffic management advice for major, minor highway schemes, and developer-led schemes.
  • Complete the design of new signing and lining schemes.
  • Issue minor works orders to contractors and to check progress/quality on site.
  • Ensure effective monitoring and reporting of projects.
  • Liaise with other departments, Councillors, and members of the public on traffic matters.
  • Supervise and guide more junior team members.
  • Deputise for or represent the Group Engineer when required.

Your profile

  • HNC or Degree in Traffic, Transport, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline and a membership of a professional institution.
  • A strong track record in Traffic Management or Transportation Planning.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in delivery of current Transport Planning / Traffic Engineering technical and legal requirements and practices.
  • Detailed knowledge of the design standards for traffic signs and road markings and for junction improvements and the enhancement of walking, cycling, and bus priority schemes.
  • Detailed understanding of project delivery and financial control.
  • Experience of supervising a small team of professionals.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of IT Skills including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to Councillors and the public, both in writing and at public meetings.
  • Experience in navigating difficult conversations and being able to give advice on spot when asked at meetings with residents and elected Members.
  • Full UK driving licence.
