Senior Traffic Engineer
South East London (Hybrid Working)
£42.00 - £45.00 per hour (Umbrella)
12-Month Ongoing Contract
35 Hours Per Week
Hybrid Working - 1 to 2 days per week in the office, remainder remote

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join a busy Transportation team delivering a variety of traffic engineering projects across a London Borough.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in highways and traffic engineering who can independently manage projects, supervise junior staff, and ensure schemes are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce financial estimates, project statistics and payment claims
- Monitor project progress, expenditure and programme delivery
- Prepare contract documentation including specifications, Bills of Quantities and tender documents
- Design and deliver traffic engineering schemes and prepare technical drawings
- Interpret surveys, reports and consultation responses
- Assess contractor quotations and provide technical recommendations
- Supervise contractors, undertake site inspections and monitor quality standards
- Prepare technical reports and present engineering advice to internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure projects comply with statutory requirements, budgets and quality standards
- Support and mentor junior engineers where required

Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working within a Local Authority, Council or Housing Association (ESSENTIAL)
- Proven experience delivering traffic engineering or highways projects
- Experience preparing technical specifications, drawings and contract documentation
- Strong understanding of highways legislation, engineering standards and contract management
- Experience managing project budgets, programmes and contractor performance
- Excellent report writing and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work independently whilst managing multiple projects
