I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
- Be the client's trusted deal-side compliance partner. Act as the primary day-to-day legal contact for institutional investors and asset managers — advising on compliance risk factors across live transactions with clarity and commercial pragmatism.
- Unpack transaction structures that others can't. Work closely with private equity deal teams to understand complex deal anatomy, identify counterparties, and conduct multi-dimensional risk analysis — covering AML, bribery and corruption, financial crime, and reputational risk.
- Investigate ownership and control to find what matters. Review fund structures, SPVs, partnerships, and trusts to map corporate ownership and fund flows — building a defensible compliance picture under deal timeline pressure.
- Drive the materials process. Liaise with deal teams, legal, compliance, and relevant counterparties to gather what's needed to complete reviews on time, without losing rigour.
- Ensure deals close compliantly. Collaborate with clients' legal and compliance teams to confirm that transactions meet AML/CTF regulations, internal policies, and jurisdictional requirements.
About You
A qualified lawyer with transactional compliance experience. You're licensed to practice in the UK or Europe (other comparable jurisdictions considered), with 4-6+ years PQE recommended in regulatory or investment compliance — and experience representing asset managers, institutional investors, or other financial services clients.
- Commercially sharp and solutions-first. You approach compliance as an enabler of deal velocity, not a barrier to it — you find the path to yes while keeping clients protected.
- Deeply familiar with complex asset management structures. You've reviewed fund structures, SPVs, offshore vehicles, and multi-jurisdictional counterparties in a live deal context.
- Client-ready under pressure. You're comfortable as the named contact for demanding institutional clients in a fast-paced financial services environment — credible, responsive, and composed when deals get complicated.
- Right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship is required for this role.
