We are growing our capability to engage with industry and R&D partners and are now seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Translation Partnership Manager to join the Innovation and Impact Department at Wellcome Sanger Institute. This new translation-focussed partnership function will sit within the Innovation and Business Engagement team alongside Business Development and Venture creation activities

About the Role:

This role is critical for expanding the institute’s impact, as well as contributing to our scientific excellence by delivering opportunities for our scientists to engage with diverse scientific communities. The Sanger institute is committed to applying its scientific outputs, capability and expertise towards the development of new products and services that could benefit society. One of the route we do so is by collaborating with industry and sharing our scientific capabilities with partners who can build on our insight to solve real world challenges

You will be responsible for:

  • The Senior Translation Partnership Manager will be responsible for identifying and promoting opportunities for Sanger to collaborate with translational partners, including industry, for formalising relationships into appropriate structures, and for managing the post deal process, with the support of an Alliance Manager.

About You:

  • You will work closely with our faculty to support their industry engagement plan and to create new opportunities for them to engage.
  • You will be passionate about science and capable of articulating the value and fit of our research for industry R&D.
  • You will be able to define and negotiate partnership structures that protect and add value to the institute.

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Understanding of genomics and biodata science capabilities, and how they can benefit industry partners.
  • Deep expertise in developing framework for collaborative R&D, from single project to consortium frameworks
  • Understanding of the academic research culture and open science
  • Substantial experience in business development and partnership development, with the ability to identify, develop, negotiate, and manage strategic collaborations.
  • Experience within an academic, research, healthcare, or innovation-focused environment would be advantageous.
  • Proven track record in establishing and nurturing partnerships with industry stakeholders, securing funding, and managing collaborative projects.
  • Proven experience of structuring and negotiating a range of partnership legal agreements (collaboration, co-development, services, consortium...)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage senior industry executives and institute stakeholders effectively
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • A team player with a collaborative attitude, internally and with external partners
  • Long-term relationship builder
  • “Big picture” thinker who can articulate how a relationship creates value for both the institute and an industry partner
  • Self-motivated, pragmatic, goal-oriented, comfortable working independently

About Us:

We are a small, supportive, and mission-driven team. We are part of the recently formed Innovation and Impact Department whose role is to amplify scientific excellence, enabling our scientists to deliver the Institute’s mission and accelerating real world impact.

Other Information:

  • Hybrid role, minimum of 3 days per week on campus
