Come and join our team at Adur & Worthing Councils and play a key role in managing trees in the area. You will assess applications for works to trees, assess and administer requests for Tree Preservation Orders and High Hedges complaints as well as participating in enforcement investigations where necessary.

As Senior Tree and Landscape Officer you will support the planning department to ensure that the Development Management team undertakes its statutory and non-statutory duties, relating to the management of the built and natural environment in accordance with planning legislation, guidance and adopted procedures.

In particular, the post is responsible for dealing with tree related planning applications and notifications of works for trees in Conservation Areas, assessing requests for Tree Preservation Orders as well as providing advice to the general public, Councillors and the Planning Team on all tree and landscape related matters. Ensuring that the team meets adopted service standards and provides an efficient and cost-effective service to its customers.

The successful candidate will ideally have worked in a similar role in another planning authority and have experience of working with tree and planning legislation, dealing with a caseload of tree related applications and commenting upon landscaping related matters where necessary.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
