Senior Typesetter

Senior Typesetter – Black Library, Games Workshop

About the Role

Games Workshop invites applications from an industrious, detail-oriented Senior Typesetter to join our Art and Design team at Black Library, where you’ll create accessible, high-quality, award-winning typesets for our premium Warhammer novel collection.

This role demands an encyclopaedic expertise in typesetting, spanning fiction and layout-driven non-fiction. Key responsibilities include:

  • Mentoring the typesetting team in maintaining quality standards
  • Updating and managing process documentation under guidance from the Graphic Design Team Lead
  • Working collaboratively with Editing, Desk Editing, and Graphic Design teams to produce attractive, readable layouts that align with narrative action and intellectual property (IP)
  • Serving as the primary typesetting query contact across the company

You’ll thrive in a dynamic, continuously improving environment, delivering high-impact work at pace, and upholding exceptional quality—from project inception to final product archiving.


Key Responsibilities

Typesetting & Quality Assurance

  • Produce fastidious, title-appropriate typesets with precise proofreading and sign-off execution
  • Lead complex design-driven projects, including art-heavy books, annotated editions, and illustrated volumes
  • Develop and refine new InDesign templates, along with clear documentation for team adoption
  • Oversee reprographics, managing physical proofs for print readiness, performance audits, and supplier relations
  • Ensure print quality standards at every stage, from supplier proofs to archived materials

Collaboration & Mentoring

  • Guide junior and mid-level typesetters, sharing your deep industry knowledge to enhance output and workflow
  • Bridge gaps across Editorial, Desk Editing, and Graphic Design teams to improve collaboration
  • Present as a strong communicator, handling internal queries and stakeholder sign-offs effectively
  • Prioritise improvement-driven solutions to bridge gaps and drive efficiency

Technical Proficiency

  • Expert mastery of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator (essential)
  • Advanced understanding of typography, layout theory, and workflow optimisation
  • Proficiency with labeling systems, structured publishing tools, and proofing conventions
