About the job

Position Overview:

We are seeking a senior UK Lending Industry Lead to join the SBS pre-sales team.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep expertise in the UK Banking and/or UK Building Societies market to support strategic sales opportunities and drive commercial success across the banking sector.

This is a customer-facing leadership role combining industry expertise, solution consulting, commercial solution design, proposal management, and team leadership. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor during client engagements, supporting sales teams throughout the opportunity lifecycle while mentoring and steering a small team of 2–3 junior domain specialists.

The SME will bridge the gap between client business challenges, product capabilities, delivery teams, and commercial objectives, ensuring that solutions are relevant, differentiated, and aligned with market expectations.

Location: London, UK
Hybrid: 60% Remote & 40% Onsite per Month

Why This Role Exists?

SBS is accelerating its growth across the UK Lending market, creating unprecedented demand for trusted industry expertise in front of customers. Our success is not constrained by product capability - it is driven by our ability to engage senior banking leaders with credibility, insight, and vision. This role sits at the heart of that ambition.

As the recognised UK Lending Subject Matter Expert, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how SBS wins business across UK Banks and Building Societies. You will influence strategic pursuits from inception to signature, act as a trusted advisor to customers, and become one of the key voices representing SBS in the market.

For professionals currently working in product, operations, change, delivery, or banking leadership roles who want to transition from execution to influence, this is a unique opportunity to move to the front line of business growth, gain direct executive exposure, and build a specialist capability around you.

What You Will Own

  • Become the Go-To Industry Authority Leverage your deep understanding of UK Banking, Lending, Mortgages, and Building Societies to shape customer conversations, influence strategy, and provide authoritative market insight both internally and externally.
  • Lead Strategic Opportunities You will not simply support sales pursuits—you will shape them. From the earliest discovery conversations through to contract signature, you will translate complex customer challenges into compelling business solutions.
  • Be the Trusted Voice in the Room Engage confidently with executives, business leaders, and transformation sponsors. Whether presenting a strategic vision, leading workshops, delivering executive demonstrations, or participating in industry events, you will be viewed as a credible advisor customers’ trust.
  • Drive Winning Proposals Own and evolve the market narrative, value messaging, and proposal content that differentiates SBS from competitors. You will ensure every submission reflects the highest standards of quality, relevance, and competitive positioning.
  • Influence Growth Strategy Work alongside sales, product, and leadership teams to shape pursuit priorities, investment decisions, and go-to-market strategies that directly impact pipeline growth and revenue outcomes.
  • Build and Develop Expertise Lead, coach, and mentor a small team of subject matter specialists, helping establish a recognised centre of excellence while creating a lasting impact beyond your individual contributions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
