Senior Underwriter | High-growth Hybrid Insurance Carrier | London (Hybrid) | £160K + bonus

Our client is a US-headquartered firm that provides capacity to enable specialty underwriters and risk capital partners to thrive in a data-centric and niche risk marketplace. As a modern, technology-enabled hybrid insurance carrier, they combine underwriting expertise with operational agility to deliver tailored insurance programs. They partner with MGAs, captives, and other intermediaries to develop niche insurance products that meet the evolving needs of businesses across various industries.
ROLE PURPOSE
We are seeking an experienced insurance professional to join our team as a Senior Underwriter. This crucial role oversees sourcing, evaluating, and onboarding new specialty insurance programs into our system. This position will utilise the latest technology to work efficiently and make smarter decisions. The Senior Underwriter works cross-functionally to evaluate program viability and implement efficient underwriting internal workflows.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
- Lead the development and execution of underwriting evaluation processes and due diligence to achieve industry-leading underwriting returns and return on equity (ROE)
- Solicit, intake, and evaluate submissions of new program opportunities from brokers, MGAs, and reinsurers
- Conduct thorough analysis of program profitability, risks, and operational requirements, and make a sound recommendation on qualitative and quantitative merits of each business opportunity.
- Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Legal/Compliance teams to streamline internal underwriting workflows
- Oversee successful onboarding of approved programs, including contracting, systems, financing, communications, and policy issuance.
- Provide technical underwriting expertise in evaluating complex property and casualty risks, developing underwriting guidelines, and assessing appropriate pricing and coverage terms. Drive continuous process improvement initiatives for DUAEs’ underwriting workflows, forms usage, pricing, terms and conditions, and risk appetite refinement.
- Collaborate with Chief Underwriting Officer and Chief Risk Officer to develop and implement effective reinsurance strategies for partner programs, ensuring adequate risk transfer and capital management.
- Working closely with Underwriting Director and Programme Manager on Portfolio Management to actively manage the overall portfolio of partner programs, monitoring risk accumulations, exposure concentrations, and profitability metrics. Monitor KPIs related to underwriting cycle times and productivity using data and analytics.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Risk Management, or other related field.
- 8+ years’ experience Product or Underwriting of with multi-line product knowledge: Liability, E&O, Cyber, Auto, Excess Casualty, Surety, Workers Compensation, and other lines
- Comprehensive knowledge of the UK regulatory system, the US surplus lines regulatory environment and delegated underwriting authority oversight
- Working knowledge of reinsurance principles, structures (treaty/facultative), and experience in developing reinsurance strategies
- Track record of building constructive, long-term relationships with multiple stakeholders
- Knowledge of P&C insurance operations and profitability drivers.
- Experience implementing efficient underwriting processes

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- ACII, CPCU, ARM, ARe, or CIC designation
- Experience with and working knowledge of reinsurance contracts and terms, and/or reinsurance broker placements
- Transact commerce with a responsive, pro-active, respectful, and communicative orientation toward collaborating with internal and external partners
- Experience with delegated underwriting authority entities in UK, EU and U.S.
- A combination of insurance carrier and MGA/MGU work experience

- Data-driven, objective mindset, with familiarity of actuarial and statistical concepts
