Senior Underwriter – Middle Market Technology

Overview

We are currently hiring for a Senior Underwriter in our Manchester or Birmingham office to drive profitable growth across our Middle Market Technology portfolio while building strong broker relationships and delivering underwriting excellence.

About The Role

As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a key role in executing our Technology underwriting strategy, assessing complex commercial risks, developing broker relationships and delivering profitable business growth. Working within delegated authority levels, you will make sound underwriting decisions, negotiate effectively and contribute to the continued success of our Middle Market Technology business.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • New business development: Support the Technology underwriting strategy by identifying and securing profitable new business opportunities.
  • Risk assessment: Evaluate complex submissions, analyse financial information and determine risk acceptability in line with underwriting guidelines.
  • Pricing and negotiation: Develop competitive pricing strategies and negotiate effectively with brokers to achieve profitable outcomes.
  • Broker engagement: Build and maintain strong broker relationships through regular market engagement and field visits.
  • Portfolio management: Monitor underwriting performance, provide insight through reporting and support business growth through cross-selling opportunities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Broker network: Established relationships within the broker market and a strong understanding of the territory.
  • Technical expertise: Strong commercial underwriting knowledge with experience handling complex risks.
  • Market knowledge: Good understanding of insurance industry practices, products and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Relationship skills: Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation abilities.
  • Decision making: Strong analytical skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and make sound commercial decisions independently.
