Senior Utilities Assessor (NERS)

Assessor – Utility Business Sector Schemes

Job ID: 44024 | Birmingham, 1 Trinity Park, Bi | Employee (Regular)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Assessor to undertake remote and on-site assessments across one or more of the Utility Business Sector schemes, including (but not limited to):

  • National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS)
  • Northern Power Grid Site Audits
  • Build Offsite Property Assurance Scheme (BOPAS)
  • Asset Management (ISO 55001)
  • PAS 128 Underground Utility Detection

This role requires strong technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to advise clients at a senior level.


Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Auditing

  • Conduct complex assessments (remote and on-site) within agreed budget and contractual parameters.
  • Produce clear, formatted assessment reports and review/oversee colleague work where requested.
  • Present findings to external clients at senior levels, recommending suitable solutions when applicable.

Commercial & Administrative Duties

  • Estimate and recommend -fee structures/time costs for client engagement and issue quotations.
  • Ensure adherence to internal processes, legislative requirements, and industry standards (e.g., accreditation schemes).

Project & Team Development

  • Support project management, tracking progress, budgets, and contract compliance.
  • Mentor junior staff to facilitate knowledge transfer and effective application of technical methodologies.
  • Play a key role in client relationship management, acting as a point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Suggest service delivery improvements based on client feedback to enhance business growth.

  • Commit to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to maintain knowledge of regulatory changes and utility sector best practices.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in utility sector assessments/assurance.
  • Strong technical knowledge of at least one (and preferably multiple) schemes listed above.
  • Ability to present complex findings confidently to clients and senior colleagues.
  • Excellent commercial awareness to evaluate and negotiate workload pricing.
  • Hands-on experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.
