Senior Utility Surveyor

Location - Multiple locations (Birmingham, Nottingham, Preston, Sheffield, Manchester, Yorkshire, Doncaster)

Job Description

As a Senior Utility Surveyor, responsible for carrying out high-quality utility surveys across a range of civil engineering, infrastructure and construction projects. Deliver accurate underground utility mapping using industry-standard survey techniques and produce detailed survey drawings to support design and construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake PAS 128 compliant underground utility surveys using electromagnetic locators (EML), Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and GPS/Total Station equipment.
  • Process and interpret utility survey data to produce accurate, high-quality CAD drawings.
  • Produce utility survey drawings using N4CE and LSS (LSS Elite) software, ensuring all deliverables meet client specifications and industry standards.
  • Carry out site control, topographical and utility surveys across highways, rail, utilities and infrastructure projects.
  • Verify existing utility records against site findings and identify discrepancies.
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, designers and clients to ensure survey requirements are fully understood and delivered.
  • Manage survey data, quality assurance procedures and survey documentation.
  • Mentor and support junior surveyors, providing technical guidance and promoting best practice.
  • Ensure all survey activities are completed safely and in accordance with company procedures, PAS 128 standards and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Maintain and calibrate survey equipment and ensure data integrity throughout project delivery.

  • Proven experience working as a Senior Utility Surveyor within the civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of PAS 128 utility surveying standards.
  • Experienced in the use of GPR, EML, GPS and robotic Total Stations.
  • Proficient in producing utility survey drawings using N4CE.
  • Experience using LSS (LSS Elite) software for survey data processing and drawing production is highly desirable.
  • Competent in AutoCAD and survey data management.
  • Excellent understanding of coordinate systems, control networks and survey methodologies.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
