International Senior Manager – Underwriting Operations | High-Growth Specialty Insurance | London (Hybrid) | Up to £90,000 + 15% Bonus

About the Role

As the International Senior Manager, you will be the operational engine and scaling force behind the international underwriting platform. The business is a modern, high-growth specialty insurance platform dedicated to bringing technical excellence and operational agility to the international insurance marketplace.

Reporting directly to a US-based Executive Line Manager while backed by a strong, collaborative UK operational team, this role is built for an autonomous, high-performing operational leader who thrives with high trust and low bureaucracy.

The role holds end-to-end accountability for building, optimizing, and overseeing the operational infrastructure that supports international underwriting. The successful candidate will drive efficiency across policy administration, binder management, delegated authority governance, and workflow automation; ensuring that underwriting teams have seamless platform capabilities to write business globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and scale the international underwriting support framework, establishing best-in-class workflows for policy issuance, rating, and administration.
  • Oversee operational controls around MGAs, coverholders, and binder management, ensuring full regulatory and operational compliance.
  • Partner with tech and operational leads to automate manual underwriting hand-offs and enhance system integrations.
  • Serve as the primary operational bridge between US executive leadership and UK/International underwriting desks.
  • Manage third-party technology providers and outsource partners to maintain strict SLAs and continuous cost efficiency.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of the end-to-end underwriting lifecycle within commercial lines, specialty, or delegated authority settings.
  • Ability to design operational blueprints from scratch and execute them in a fast-changing scale-up environment.
  • High independence and resilience; comfortable taking ownership under remote US leadership while leveraging local UK support.
  • Focused on eliminating operational friction to directly drive underwriting throughput and capacity usage.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Significant experience in senior underwriting operations, insurance operations management, or operational transformation within commercial insurance.
  • Clear track record operating within a start-up, scale-up, or rapidly expanding business environment.
  • Deep understanding of UK and international insurance market frameworks, delegated authority structures, and regulatory landscapes.
  • Proven ability to build, manage, and optimize operational processes and data-driven reporting pipelines.

Role Details

  • Salary: Up to £90,000 base + 15% bonus.
  • Location: London (Hybrid working pattern).
  • Reporting Line: US-based Line Manager with full local UK team support.
