Role Purpose
The Senior Vehicle Technician (Overhaul) will be responsible for carrying out major mechanical repairs and component rebuilds to the highest standards.
This role is ideal for a highly skilled technician who enjoys diagnosing faults, rebuilding components, and undertaking complex repairs that require precision, experience, and attention to detail.
The position will work closely with the Workshop Foreman and Master Technician to maintain quality standards and support workshop productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Engine Overhaul & Rebuilds
- Complete engine strip-downs and rebuilds.
- Replace timing chains, timing belts, and associated components.
- Carry out cylinder head repairs and replacements.
- Perform engine diagnostics before and after repair.
- Complete engine replacement work where required.
Gearbox & Transmission Repairs
- Remove, inspect, repair, and refit manual and automatic transmissions.
- Diagnose transmission-related faults.
- Replace clutches, flywheels, and drivetrain components.
- Carry out differential and driveshaft repairs.

Major Mechanical Repairs
- Suspension system repairs and replacements.
- Steering system repairs.
- Brake system overhaul and replacement.
- Cooling system repairs.
- Fuel system and exhaust system repairs.
Diagnostics & Fault Finding
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults.
- Use workshop diagnostic equipment effectively.
- Identify root causes of failures.
- Support technicians with technical issues when required.
Quality Control
- Ensure all repairs are completed to manufacturer specifications.
- Complete road tests where required.
- Carry out self-quality inspections before vehicle release.
- Help reduce workshop comeback rates.
Workshop Support
- Assist junior technicians when required.
- Share technical knowledge and best practices.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and professional working environment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the workshop.

Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Level 3 Motor Vehicle Qualification (or equivalent).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong mechanical repair background.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Vehicle Technician.
- Proven experience carrying out:
- Engine rebuilds
- Gearbox repairs
- Clutch replacements
- Timing chain and timing belt work
- Advanced mechanical repairs
Technical Skills
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability.
- Ability to read technical repair information.
- Confident using diagnostic equipment.
- High level of mechanical competence.
Preferred Qualifications
- MOT Tester Licence.
- IMI Certification.
- Manufacturer training.
- Hybrid and Electric Vehicle qualifications.
- Experience working in a high-volume workshop environment.
