Are you ready to support a team of talented engineers, modellers, and consultants and help shape the future of the water industry?

Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Senior Wastewater Modeller in AECOM’s growing Edinburgh office, while taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.

At AECOM, we’re at the forefront of innovation, delivering a comprehensive portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients. These include contractors, charities, and water companies.

In this role, you will be one of the lead technical team members, helping to support junior members of the team in delivering high-quality projects.

AECOM has recently been named preferred bidder for one of two Primary Designers for Scottish Water’s SR27 Enterprise. This transformational, multi-billion-pound programme is the highest value venture ever put into place by Scottish Water and will reshape Scotland’s water and wastewater infrastructure from 2027 to 2033, with potential for an extended period.

AECOM will be at the heart of delivery, shaping excellence in large-scale design and partnering with Scottish Water and our Enterprise Partners. This ground-breaking initiative promises to drive significant positive change for Scottish customers, preparing for a future beyond today’s challenges.

You will take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to meaningful work with large-scale impact across Scotland’s communities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Be the technical lead on the delivery of projects ranging from small to medium-scale modelling tasks
  • Effectively delegate tasks to the team based on project workloads and deadlines
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior staff members
  • Conduct Health & Safety Risk Assessments
  • Coordinate Field Teams
  • Perform Model Build and Verification
  • Develop optioneering for design solutions
  • Prepare technical reports and design documentation
  • Manage progress reporting and client liaisons
  • Engage in project management and improve business development through client relations

Qualifications & Requirements

Core Requirements

  • Experience using Infoworks ICM
  • Understanding and ability to work within a project’s financial and programme constraints
  • Skills in developing technical specifications and project scopes
  • Experience with the technical review of projects, including design and optioneering, and proposal preparation
  • Expertise in overseeing a team of project engineers and technicians
  • Direct or meaningful liaison role with government departments, local authorities, water and utility companies, SEPA, and other public bodies
  • Proven ability to develop robust client relationships and secure long-term business engagement
  • Excellent oral and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or equivalent
  • Self-motivated individual able to work independently and take ownership of workloads
  • Capacity to make independent decisions, act autonomously, and function efficiently in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated report writing, presentation, and client-facing skills
  • Proficiency in coding languages such as Ruby or Python
