An opportunity has arose for an experienced Senior Wastewater Process Engineer to join our Water Engineering teams located in Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle or Glasgow.
Working within various multidisciplinary project design teams, you will take a key role in delivering process engineering design content across a range of challenges in water engineering, including wastewater and water reuse projects throughout the UK and overseas. Your responsibilities will span from feasibility and concept development through to delivering detailed designs for procurement, construction, and reviewing supplier proposals.
As an experienced Wastewater Process Engineer, you will collaborate within project teams to deliver effective and professional services for diverse and high-profile clients.
Key Responsibilities

Produce process design deliverables such as:
- Optioneering studies
- Process calculations & mass balances
- Process flow diagrams
- Piping and instrumentation drawings & sketches
- Basis of design reports
- Review and input on supplier proposals

Undertake outline or detailed process engineering design

Conduct site visits for data acquisition and operational meetings

Provide technical input to procurement processes

Support Project Managers in client technical discussions

Engage with technology providers and vendors

Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, and SWIFT sessions

Offer technical guidance, coaching, and supervision to junior staff

Collaborate across multi-disciplinary project teams, integrating process engineering needs within time, cost, and quality constraints

Contribute to proposals, project scopes, schedules, and budgets

Ensure client expectations (both internal and external) are understood and met

Qualifications & Registration
You’ll need to demonstrate:
- A Chemical or Environmental Engineering degree (or equivalent)
- CEng (Chartered Engineer) status (or commitment to achieving it within 12 months of hire)
Essential Experience & Skills
- Significant experience in process engineering design for infrastructure projects, including leadership roles in process design
- Proven expertise in the municipal water industry (or relevant industrial expertise)
- Ability to prepare/review process design deliverables (technical specs, calculations, reports, P&IDs, mass balances, procurement documentation) independently
- Experience delivering studies, feasibility, conceptual, FEED, and detailed designs in wastewater treatment, covering:
- Primary (screens, grit removal)
- Secondary (ASP, MBBR, MBR)
- Tertiary (filtration, clarification, chemical dosing, P removal)
- Knowledge of circular economy principles and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems
- Consultancy or professional services experience in a process engineering role
- Strong technical written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to:
- Present complex ideas clearly and professionally to colleagues, clients, and subcontractors
- Lead multi-disciplinary team meetings (in-person or virtual)
- Engage as the technical representative for external clients
- Willingness to travel and site visit operational works and construction sites
