At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Leverage our global reach to take on new challenges and collaborate with diverse, talented individuals who will expand your horizons.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Wastewater Process Engineer to join our Water Engineering team in one of the following UK locations: Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle or Glasgow.

Forming part of multidisciplinary project design teams, you will play a key role in delivering process engineering designs across a diverse range of water engineering and wastewater reuse projects—nationally and internationally.

Your work will span from early feasibility studies and optioneering through to detailed design packages, procurement support, and review of supplier proposals. As an experienced professional, you will contribute critical input at every stage, ensuring technical excellence and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities & Contributions

  • Concept to Execution:

    • Develop process design deliverables—including optioneering studies, process calculations, mass balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, sketches, and basis of design reports—to achieve the most effective project solutions.
    • Undertake outline or detailed process engineering design to support project objectives.
    • Lead site visits for data acquisition and engage with operational teams to assess current performance and inform design decisions.
  • Technical Leadership:

    • Provide technical input during procurement, ensuring clarity and reliability in project specifications, supplier briefings, and contract negotiation.
    • Support Project Managers in client-facing discussions and technical exchanges.
    • Collaborate with technology vendors to align project needs with innovative solutions (e.g., Zero Liquid Discharge, circular economy principles).
    • Attend and contribute to technical risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, SWIFT analyses).
  • Mentorship & Capacity Building:

    • Offer technical guidance, mentorship, and professional support to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Integration & Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration:

    • Work seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams to ensure process engineering designs are aligned with broader project goals—delivering high-quality work on time, on budget, and compliant with all objectives.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
