Europe’s leading design, engineering, environment and regulatory consultancy, we’re now recruiting for a Senior Water Quality Modeller to join our Water team in Leeds. This role offers flexible working with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office, plus adjusted start/finish times.
About the Role
As part of the Water team, you’ll promote the sustainable management of water resources, helping to protect the water environment and enhance flood resilience. This role is critical in supporting water companies through AMP8 and beyond, tackling water quality challenges, storm overflows, and compliance issues.
As a senior modeller, you’ll provide technical leadership in urban pollution modelling, collaborating with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, sustainable, and practical solutions with real environmental impact. We’ll support your professional development so you can become a true difference maker at Sweco.
Key Responsibilities
Developing, calibrating, auditing and interpreting models to assess water quality performance
- Urban Pollution Modelling (UPM) studies to identify and assess water quality failures and compliance risks
- Design and delivery of Natural Flood Management (NFM) measures
- Developing improvement options for storm overflows and discharges
- Providing technical assurance and peer review of reports
- Advising on modelling tools (SIMCAT, SAGIS, InfoWorks ICM, MIKE, GIS)
- Preparing Water Framework Directive (WFD) compliance assessments
- Authoring technical reports and environmental impact assessments

What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Significant experience in water quality, hydrology and modelling
- Degree or equivalent in geography, engineering, environmental science or maths
- Proficiency in hydrological/water quality modelling software and environmental assessment tools
- Proven project leadership experience within deliverables, quality assurance and methods
- Knowledge of Flood Risk Assessment, SuDS, and NFM techniques
- Chartered status (or demonstrating progress) – Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) or Chartered Water Environmental Manager (C.WEM)
