Opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Works Manager to join our construction team on a major rail infrastructure scheme. This high-profile project will deliver significant enhancements to the local network, including the construction of two new stations, extensive earthworks, structure renewals and replacements, and the installation of new permanent way along a previously disused line.
Reporting directly to the Project Director, you will play a key leadership role in driving the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of construction works across the scheme. You will lead and coordinate a team of Works Managers and Forepersons, setting the standard for operational excellence across site.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading the day-to-day operational management of the site, ensuring delivery aligns with programme, safety, quality and budget requirements
- Setting and maintaining high standards for health, safety, environmental and quality performance across all activities
- Managing multiple workstreams including stations, track, structures, earthworks, roadworks, traffic management and rail possessions
- Ensuring effective coordination between internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers and stakeholders
- Monitoring progress against programme and taking proactive action to keep works on track
- Driving best practice in construction delivery, including productivity, planning and resource management
- Overseeing inspections, permits, briefings and site documentation to ensure full compliance
- Supporting engineering teams with planning and resolving technical challenges where required
- Managing interfaces with the public and ensuring works are delivered with minimal disruption
- Contributing to continuous improvement and identifying opportunities to enhance delivery performance

What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience as a Senior Works Manager or Construction Manager on major rail or civil engineering projects of similar scale and complexity
- Strong knowledge of delivering works across areas such as stations, track, structures, earthworks and public interface environments
- Demonstrable experience managing large teams and multiple subcontractors on complex sites
- A strong track record of delivering to programme, quality and safety standards
- In-depth understanding of rail industry requirements, including possessions and safety-critical activities
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to drive performance, solve problems and make sound decisions under pressure
- Relevant CSCS Card (Site Manager – Black)
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
- First Aid at Work
- Strong working knowledge of construction methods, health & safety, and legal regulations
