Temple University is seeking a dedicated Senior/Lead Dental Assistant to oversee daily operations at the Tamaqua, PA, clinic. As part of the second-oldest dental school in the U.S., Kornberg School of Dentistry combines a rich 160-year legacy with cutting-edge dentistry, patient care, and education. Our students and faculty drive innovation in oral health—take the lead in shaping their future.

This role blends clinical expertise with administrative oversight, ensuring seamless operations for faculty, residents, and patients.


About the Role

The Sr. Lead Dental Assistant is a supervisory position responsible for managing clinic operations at Temple University’s dental clinic in Tamaqua, PA. Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordination and training of Dental Assistants and clerical staff
  • Ensuring compliance with infection control, safety, and medical emergency protocols
  • Supporting routine and complex dental procedures (e.g., surgeries)
  • Maintaining equipment, supplies, and patient records
  • Supporting front-desk functions as needed

Key Responsibilities

Supervisory & Administrative Duties

  • Oversee staffing levels, ensuring smooth operations and patient care
  • Train and mentor new/seasonal staff on clinic policies, equipment, and procedures
  • Monitor clinical revenue and prepare reports for the Clinic Director
  • Manage patient recall lists and optimize clinic scheduling
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory compliance (HIPAA, OSHA, infection control)

Clinical & Diagnostic Support

  • Chairside assist during surgical and routine procedures (4-handed dentistry)
    • Use high/low-speed hand pieces, curing lights, and sterilization equipment
  • Perform digital radiography (take, process, upload)

Safety & Equipment Management

  • Review sterilization processes and conduct spore tests
  • Maintain AEDs, oxygen, and emergency medication readiness
  • Troubleshoot dental equipment and manage logs for maintenance records

Supply Chain & Mines

  • Order and inventory dental materials (implants, abutments, supplies)
  • Coordinate appliance deliveries from labs

Patient Care & Front Desk Support

  • Greet patients, check-in/check out, and assist with scheduling
  • Process payments and triage front-desk inquiries

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • 3+ years as a Dental Assistant
  • Certified Dental Radiography (PA Commonwealth-approved)
  • CPR certification
  • Accredited Dental Assisting training (certificate required)

(Experience equivalencies considered.)

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Supervisory experience handling staff in a clinical environment
  • Advanced dental terminology (including surgical protocols)
  • Infection control & sterilization procedures
  • Digital imaging (X-ray) competency
  • Stronger than organizational skills (multitasking, prioritization, customer service)
    • Work efficiently with dental instruments, sterilizers, and equipment
