Senior / Principal Civil Engineer
Location: London (hybrid working: minimum 3 days in the office) Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 per annum (depending on experience) + competitive benefits Hours: Full Time (37.5h per week)
About the Role
We are seeking a professionally qualified Senior / Principal Civil Engineer with Chartered Engineer (CEng) status to strengthen our multidisciplinary team. As part of our dynamic firm, you’ll contribute to diverse projects—from city-wide masterplans to parks, public realm schemes, educational facilities, arts/leisure spaces, and commercial/residential developments.
Ideal candidates will have 6–9 years of post-graduation design experience, expertise in troubleshooting complex challenges, and an ability to deliver creative, technically robust solutions. You’ll leverage your strong analytical, engineering design, and communication skills to deliver impactful infrastructure and environmental solutions.
Key Responsibilities & Core Experience
Technical Expertise
- Design of key infrastructure systems:
- Water infrastructure, flood mitigation, drainage, highways, and utilities
- Digital design and optimisation using tools like:
- Parametric earth movement modelling
- Information systems & 3D modelling
- Site analysis in hydrology, utilities, ground conditions, and environmental factors
- Developing project briefs, strategies, and feasibility studies tailored to client needs
Technical & Software Proficiency
We expect familiarity with: ✔ Relevant infrastructure standards (UK and international) for awareness and adaptation ✔ Technical stakeholder negotiations (e.g., Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities, water undertakers) ✔ Precision in producing high-quality drawings and schematics ✔ GIS, planning & map interpretation, along with CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, InfoDrainage) ✔ BIM applications in project delivery ✔ Sustainable development practices and climate resilience strategies ✔ Multidisciplinary collaboration with clients, architects, and project teams

- 3D parametric modelling (e.g., Rhino/Grasshopper)
- Energy & environmental analysis software (IES VE, JEP/EnergyPlus, Ladybug/Honeybee, DIVA, JPA SAP)
- Building-level environmental design and green infrastructure
Professional Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree (BSc or BEng) in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with professional body membership (ICE, CIWEM or similar)
