Senior Ecologist – Natural Environment Projects

Your Opportunity: Natural Environment Projects

You’ll work alongside our award-winning ecology team—including the President of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and three CIEEM Fellows—on groundbreaking projects that drive nature-positive solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Working both independently and within multi-disciplinary teams, you’ll:

  • Conduct ecological assessments and habitat design for development and nature recovery initiatives
  • Develop innovative, pragmatic ecological mitigation and compensation strategies
  • Collaborate across disciplines to embed early-stage ecological considerations
  • Deliver high-quality ecological deliverables (e.g., UKHab surveys, PEAs, EIAs, HRAs, Biodiversity Net Gain)
  • Apply quality assurance to all outputs
  • Lead ecology on projects (task/project management)
  • Mentor staff and manage line teams
  • Drive client relationships and win new work

About You

We’re passionate about fostering inclusion—so we welcome ecologists with or without a degree. What matters most is your ability to thrive in our team, apply your expertise, and guide our work.

Essential Requirements

  • Strong passion for ecology and natural environment advocacy
  • Expertise in UK wildlife legislation and assessment methodologies
  • Ability to carry out Preliminary Ecological Assessments (PEAs), Ecological Impact Assessments (EIAs), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRAs), and Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Field identification skills (equivalent to Level 3+ Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC))
  • Experience in protected species survey, mitigation, and licensing
  • Demonstrated report-writing proficiency
  • CIEEM membership or equivalent; preference for Chartership (CEnv/CEcol) or clear pathway to achieve it
  • Full UK driving license
