Senior/Principal Ecologist

Senior Ecologist – Nature Positive Schemes

Shape the future of our cities and environments with AtkinsRéalis, where our people’s diversity of thought, expertise, and knowledge drive game-changing work across a wide range of projects.

Our ecology team is committed to making a positive difference to the natural environment, collaborating with other disciplines from the project outset to ensure ecology is considered at the earliest stage. This partnership-driven approach enables us to deliver nature-positive schemes that we’re proud to champion—from habitat creation and research to major infrastructure projects.

Our award-winning ecology team of over 130 ecologists includes the President of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and three CIEEM Fellows. We foster a flexible, inclusive, and collaborative environment where staff wellbeing is a priority, and we actively work to make entry into the environmental sector more inclusive for everyone—without requiring a degree.

We value hands-on experience, a passion for ecology, and the drive to belong to a thriving team.

Your Role

Working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, you will:

  • Undertake ecological assessment and habitat design for development and nature recovery projects.
  • Develop innovative and pragmatic approaches to ecological mitigation and compensation.
  • Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams, engaging with stakeholders and clients.
  • Deliver clear, concise, and high-quality ecological deliverables in line with current guidance and best practice.
  • Conduct quality assurance of ecological outputs.
  • Act as the ecology lead on projects, including task/project management.
  • Provide mentorship and line management where needed.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
